On our recent move from Southern California to Dallas we drove two cars, one dog, and a whole lota stuff over 1,500 miles through California, Arizona, New Mexico, and west Texas. Being in the car for three days with no one to talk to but the dog was kinda dull, as was much of the landscape between here and there.
So I decided to mix it up a bit and use my iPhone Hipstamatic app to take photos along the way (whenever I wasn’t passing a semi). Over the course of the 1,500 miles I took some 200 iPhone photos. Before each photo I shook my phone to randomize Hipstamatic’s lens and film selections. This, in addition to my somewhat haphazard, one-handed composition and focus from the, er, driver’s seat, meant every photo was a real surprise.
These are a few of my favorites from the trip. I love the vintage quality of the images, as well as the vastness and timelessness it gives the western landscape.
